Note: The species externally resembles L. dispar, though the forewings are more narrow pointed at the apex than rounded. Best way to separate Lymantria costalis and Lymantria ampla is by examining HW which is completely brown in ampla and pale yellow in costalis with a brown marginal border. Both have two pale yellow spots on the costa.
