Diagnosis (MOB). This (delostigma) and the next species (paroobathra) lack discal spots on the hindwing underside except occasionally in forms with strong black apical markings to the forewing. This species is variable but tends to be more uniform pinkish fawn; paroobathra is pinker with rich rufous mottling and striation that is stronger over the basal half of the wing and at the forewing apex. In forms with strong black markings at the forewing apex, the discal spots are also strong, black in delospila, but are weaker with orange centres in paroobathra, as is the apical mark itself. P. delostigma has a form with pale orange patches postmedially (illustrated), usually associated with stronger medial fasciae. The genitalia of both species are similar but delostigma has a narrow aedeagus vesica lacking a cornutus; there is a small, thorn like cornutus in paroobathra. In the female of paroobathra, the ductus is narrower with a stronger sclerotised band, and the signum is larger and set apically rather than subapically.
