Similar species:

Locharna limbata (Collenette, 1932). 
The dark form male of limbata has a buff band along the margin of the hind wing. Locharna strigipennis lacks this buff band. Females of the two species, and the male pale form of Locharna strigipennis are difficult to separate without specimens.

Notes: Locharna strigipennis Moore, 1879 is sexually dimorphic. It has a dark and a pale male form, while the female look like the pale male form. The sexes can be separated by the stronger pectinations in the male. The dark form is largely black.
