Teliphasa nubilosa Moore, 1888
1) OD : Descriptions of Indian Lepidoptera Heterocera from the collection of the late Mr. W.S. Atkinson, 1888(3): 199–299, pg 201
2) Taxonomic review of the genus Teliphasa Moore, 1888 from China, with descriptions of four new species – fig 9 , https://zookeys.pensoft.net/articles.php?id=6177
3) On the taxonomy of genus Teliphasa Moore, 1888 (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae Epipaschiinae) with the description of two new species and two new species records from India, Ranjan et al http://treatment.plazi.org/GgServer/html/994787D1560E694DC88C03D587EDF8C5 & figures 1 & 2 on https://zenodo.org/record/6577734
Diagnosis (Liu et al) - This species is different from its congeners by the forewing suffused
with olive-green scales in the median area, the rather thick male labial palpus extend-
ing to thorax, and the dorsal side of the labial palpus with long brownish yellow hairs
in the distal ¾
Similar spp. (vide Ranjan et al) –
T. erythrina is distinct from T. nubilosa by the labial palpi of male reaching up to the vertex of head, the forewing with a medial whitish area tinged with fuscous, the hindwing with a basal and medial area having whitish suffusion, whereas in T. nubilosa the labial palpi of male reach up and posteriad to the prothorax, the forewing medial area is tinged olive, the hindwing has a suffusion of more fuscous scales.
Teliphasa dodaki Ranjan, Singh & Kirti - Further, T. dodaki sp. nov. is distinct from another similar species, T. nubilosa , by the yellowish forewing ground colour, and the hindwing with a prominent postmedial line, with the area beyond it with faint traces of fuscous suffusion, and a prominent fuscous marginal band present, whereas in T. nubilosa the forewing ground colour is dark greyish–green and the hindwing is almost uniformly fuscous, except the basal costal area, with the hindwing marginal band diffused with fuscous ground colour
SS. I have updated the list of Teliphasa species found in India. Really tough genus and we probably need at least HW, if not dissection to be certain. The current Teliphasa on MOI and MOI-pm398 is surely a different species.
Generally, I agree with Teliphasa nubilosa Moore, 1888. Similar species to nebulosa are elegans and amicable, both currently extralimital.
JR: I think we can go with T. nubilosa for this one
