The only known species of this genus from India.
JD:; The FW termen here is not produced as is mentioned in the OD,, other illustrations, & images.
GI: May be this is a female, hence the FW termen is not as shown in Moths of Laos Vol.2
SS: More notes and investigation. No mention anywhere of male/female have differing wing shapes. But all papers show Macaduma tortricella male with wing indentation. I wonder whether in live images, the wing shape is not completely visible. Bottom line: either we publish as Macaduma tortricella Walker, 1866 with provisional ID, or stay at genus level.
Wing shape of tortricella on MOB - https://www.mothsofborneo.com/part-7/cisthenini/cisthenini_13.php
iNat has two sets of images , one with a slight protrusion on FW temen & an angle on the costa, the other without & more evenly curved termen & costa. Could this be male / female? Hampson mentions the FW colour of the female as dull reddish brown with purplish tinge (matches this observation) as opposed to chestnut for the male
Zhao, T.T., Bucsek, K. and Han, H.L., 2022. Two new species and one new record of the genus Macaduma Walker, 1866 from China (Lepidoptera: Erebidae, Arctiinae). SHILAP Revista de lepidopterología, 50(197), pp.97-103. Fig. 7 for M. malayana, which does not show indentation in HW, but is extralimital.
Macaduma malayana Bucsek, K., 2014. Erebidae, Arctiinae (Lithosiini, Arctiini) of Malay Peninsula-Malaysia (Supplementum): Institute of Zoology SAS, Bratislava. 45 pp.
Macaduma micra Dubatolov & Bucsek, 2016
Bayarsaikhan, U., Im, K.H. and Bae, Y.S., 2020. Six new recorded species of Lithosiini (Lepidoptera: Erebidae, Arctiinae) in Cambodia. Journal of Asia-Pacific Biodiversity, 13(3), pp.384-390. Fig. 1J. Shows micra male, but extralimital.
GI: May be this is a female, hence the FW termen is not as shown in Moths of Laos Vol.2. Since this is the only known species of this genus from India, I believe it won't be too wrong to publish it as Macaduma tortricella Walker, 1866. If in doubt still ( attn JD) then publish it as a provisional id. I am ok with this id for the present.
