Adults of most Cryptophlebia species are superficially similar and are often mixed in collections. The three species, C. illepida, C. ombrodelta, and C. peltastica, can be separated by male genitalia and geographic distribution. [C. illepida - Hawaii; C. ombrodelta - Australia, Guam, Japan, India, Southeast Asia, Hawaii; C. peltastica - Africa, Seychelles, Mauritius, Guam].
