OD from FBI, Hampson (1895). Antennae black; palpi orange, the 3rd joint black. Head black, spotted with orange; thorax and abdomen black above, white below ; tegulae black and orange. Fore wing white ; the costa and area from the cell to outer margin black ; an orange subapical elongate patch, widest towards the costa ; the outer edge of the white area rather irregular. Hind wing white, with a rather broad marginal black band with dentate inner edge.
Underside: fore wing as above, but with an additional orange streak on outer margin below apex ; hind wing uniform pale yellow, with a black mark on the middle of the discocellulars, and the short black streaks on the nervules halfway between the cell and outer margin
so characteristic of Abraxas.
A beautiful mimic of Colotis etrida (https://www.ifoundbutterflies.org/#!/sp/507/Colotis-etrida), which is very common in the same district.
Type locality. Kodaikanal, Palni Hills.
