exprimens Walker has extreme mauve highlights, particularly at the margins of the wings, that define a diagnostic brown semicircle at the anterior half of the forewing margin and emphasise the smoother, less angular submarginal on the hindwing. The hindwing angle is much more produced in costristriga.

Differs from (varialis==exprimens) in being much darker brown. Forewing with a series of yellow spots on costa ; the white spot andyellow patch at end of cell minute ; the submarginal line dark; no lunule or white suffusion on outer margin. Hind wing with the postmedial line dark and more angled ; no white suffusion.
