Diagnosis (Vide MOB). The species is similar to bubo but slightly more delicate. Differences from bubo include: a distinctly paler, irregular submarginal fascia in a more uniform submarginal zone; a definite convexity to the distal border of the hieroglyph at its hook; a slightly concave distal border to the antemedial black patch, that is then angled obtusely more anteriorly where it grades to brown.
Avatha heterographa and Avatha bubo are similar species. Avatha chinensis in MON Pl. 46/20 was an error in ID and was corrected to Avatha heterographa in MON Part 3.
