Similar species - Antipercnia belluaria - X. foraria has the antennae in the male with short stiff pectinations. A. belluaria has the antennae minutely serrate & fasciculate. Other differences are in venation but difficult to differentiate.
Percnia felinaria - Same as above, & also X. foraria is smaller & paler with smaller spots. X. foraria also has a brown-yellow wash on the abdomen as described in the OD.
A personal observation is on the HW – in X. foraria, the HW inner margin reaches the end of the abdomen, & the termen is more rounded.
Male - the pectinate antennae are visible when zoomed.
