Similar species: Other members of Lymantria subgenus. Lymantria subrosea subrosea South India (distributions do not overlap), Lymantria subrosea singapura (in this ssp. singapura markings more heavy), Lymantria todara South India (distributions do not overlap), Lymantria concolor concolor (markings blacker more contrast), Lymantria monarcha (extra limital). In the subgenus Porthetria group L. brotea lepcha is superficially similiar, the FW submarginal and postmedial lines run straighter and are less irregular forming a straight space between them.
