As per MOB Diagnosis. This species (Phalera grotei) is easily confused with the next, sundana Holloway, but has narrower forewings that are a more uniform and leaden grey colour and lack the pale area with black submarginal dots at the tornus. In the male genitalia the uncus is more slender than the gnathal processes rather than broader. Other characters are given by Holloway (1982a).
